Interesting, because that was the second part I ever machined on my CNC
Sherline mill, after the 7-sided polygon...

I just drew a series of 90-degree arcs in Versacad, each with an
incrementally larger radius. I have written a macro to take a series of
lines/arcs and write out g-code, and then I hand-edited the resulting file
to add Z coordinates. My pseudo-spiral had the radius increasing by .050
per turn, and the depth increasing by .050 per turn, so that the "steps"
were square. I cut from the top down (with CNC Pro, with which I'm really
impressed and like,) and didn't need to rough anything out, because the
cutter was only (and constantly) cutting at .050 depth. Dead simple, but
very impressive to show off to my wife and kids.

Best regards,

Randy
