Hi Ballendo,
I suspect it may be an older versus newer thing - its a while since I
actually saw any being ground. In my formative days of engineering I was
always taught not to trust centreless ground stock for any job which
required real accuracy - like using it as plain shafting in as-bought
condition because of the possible faults I mentioned. However, I can see
that production in the way you describe would give a much better and more
likely concentric finish than the 3-wheel method. I suppose the only caveat
now is 'beware of old stock'...
