Yo Alan;
Vacuum would work, as long as it's not strong enough to, "suck eggs" :-)
My thought would have been to make a coat hanger wire ring a little larger than
an average egg. Weld the ends, and clip them off. Weld 3 or 4 similar wires to
the outside of the ring, and extend them down to a clampable rod or bar. Spread
some silicon around the inside of the ring. Wait for it to get a little
stiff-ish, grease up a hard boiled egg with something, (spray no stick?), and
let it finish curing. If it won't come loose, at least the hard boiled egg will
still be edible, won't make a mess, and you can pick the pieces loose with
something sharp, leaving a nicely rounded holder. Cover the sides, and string
in a vacuum line to it if you like. Do it on both ends, and you got an, "egg
lathe", for interestin' orderfs.....:-)

You could then use the Z-A swap trick to develop the G-code for the surface, or else, use Vector's Wrap cylinder to develop the 3D surface, from which you could either draw X-Y-Z coordinates using about 1/4 of the surface and indexing, or else use the VectorPlus rotary 4th axis to generate the entire drawing path directly from the model.
