Jerry,
The g92(preload registers) command is older than the g54-59 "fixture
offsets". G54-59 was created to eliminate problems with the g92
command; so I'd say at least part of the answer is to use fixture
offsets rather than g92 where ever possible.
Many controls implement the g92 command differently, so without
speaking to specific controls, a further answer might be misleading.
For instance some classes of control will "move" all the fixture
offsets when a g92 is processed; others will not change the fixture
offsets at all.
The basic problem with most implementations of g92 is one similar to
another current thread (G90 vs.91). G92 is kinda like "relative"
mode, and fixture offsets are kinda like "absolute" mode.
