Thanks for the replies. I had thought about the air cylinder but
thought that would be compressable in terms of drag during a grinding
pass. Burning or uneven grind could be an issue.
I had also considered the stepper motor concept. I don't know if the
pulses at low speed would transfer to the object being ground. It
should work fine for the Y-axis.
Back to the research board and scrap yard till I find it all laying
in a pile ready to install. 8~)
