Hey man, it is *not* the end of the world. Figure you can spend per
axis $100 on a driver (Gecko), $50-65 for the encoder (US digital)
allow $200 to get quite a motor (various surplus sources), and you
should be able to afford a power supply and any of the popular
software packages with the money left over from your previous budget
of $500/axis.
