Hey Fred,
Well, Most of what you say IS, "because" Vector is such a good program !
You bring up a very good point. Vector just may be one of the few programs that CAN handle a Corel DXF !
I did notice that Vector is quite tolerable with screwed up files from other programs. Corel DXF export filters have been some of the worst. Vector has the ability to get rid of the duplicates and also it seems to be able to get the arcs going the right way. I have seen Corel DXF files brought in to other programs that were in absolute shambles.
The new Metafile import is very interesting. I never used Metafiles in the past as for some reason I thought they were raster. And, I have to admit, short of bringing one into Vector once, I have not done it since. But it did do a nice job.
In regards the hpgl "print driver", is this a driver offered by Corel ? I only had one 3rd party program that allowed this but it was not a Corel product. If it is a Corel driver, how long have they had it with and in which versions ? Never came across it. The only thing I know about their hpgl "filter" was that starting in V7's "special edition" you did not get it at all. Now I am hearing that
it does not install by default in newer versions.
Install by "Default" Issues always strike me as bizzare..... Someone makes those decisions as to what goes and what does not! Why install a bunch of other drivers ( probably can export every stinkin "word" format for the last 7 years ) but not hpgl ? Strange. Especially when so many know and use Corel for vinyl cutting.
Long live Vector. Now all we need, is for it to draw like Corel as well as it does a Cad program. Then Corel will no longer be needed ! I hope that would happen before Corel would start drawing like a Cad program and offer g-code toolpath creation.
Then again, I don't think I will ever see one program that will do it all. Seems like no one wants that..............

I've never had problems with any DXF from Corel Draw to Vector, as long as you realize that older versions of DXF were units blind. This means that if you work in inch and draw in MM that you will often get scaling that is off by 25.4.

VectorCAD (note Cad only, CAM not required) will do the same, except that you can precisely control the order and direction of cut within the HPGL file from Vector and will have difficulty with the Corel File.
