Jon,
Autogerb produces genuine .gbr files that board houses are perfectly
happy to turn into genuine PCBs. The default setting in Autogerb is
3.4 and RS-274X format. Other settings are possible but board houses
prefer the default ones.
In the past I've had no end of problems with programs converting .dxf
and .dwg files to gerber format. Stuff like artifacts, portions of
the drawing mirrored, inability to handle nested islands, inability
to accurately fill closed boundries, etc, etc. It was always a crap-
shoot whether the .gbr would have more than a passing resemblence to
the original.
Now I just push a couple of keys in ACAD and I get letter perfect
gerber files every time. I'm actually beginning to trust it.
