Carl: Well, not "CNC", but I DID cobble a dual-Hall-Effect "quadrature
encoder" (or, "Single pulse/turn shaft-encoder") to my engine-lathe, which I
use also as a coil-winder. This encoder drives a four-digit 74HC390 up/down
counter with 7-seg. readouts. Useful for more than just coil-winding,
actually, now and then! Jan Rowland
