~As for the machine, I think you'll be okay with it. CMS uses pretty
~much off-the-shelf components so down the road if you have problems
~there are alternate sources for parts/help. Actually, that was one
~on my main concerns in choosing between Upgrade and Omni-turn. With
~Upgrade I knew I could always fall back on Fagor for help, with Omni-
~turn I was stuck with them and their proprietary control (and
~attitude).
~

I'm not so worried about the machine. CMS has a pretty good rep as far as
the iron goes. I guess that their company was partially purchased by Nippon
or Nissan Steel and now their service sucks because the plant was moved to
florida and they no longer produce the machines in house. I don't want to
turn this thread into an omni-turn bash, they supposedly make a pretty good
machine too. I chose cms for a variety of reasons, but they got me financed
and that was the clincher. If this machine is more of a headache than a
moneymaker, I'm going to blow it up.

~I don't know the 8055 control, but I think it's a much fa$ter ver$ion
~of my 8025. Whichever Fagor control you have, you'll get to love.
~They're really nice controls.
~

From what I got (limited info) about the control, its pretty solid. I got
really shoddy training because the machine had a fault out issue for the
last 6 hours of training. I didn't pay for it but I'm paying now trying to
find tooling and get someone for backup training. I really hope for the
sake of the companies warranty program the fault issue is fixed.

Am I crazy for not wanting to do business with a company that gave me the
run around for 6 weeks and offered crappy training? Let's just say that I
started the ball rolling in november and I just got the machine on friday.
That alone with the promises of delivery on the 1st of January is enough to
send someone on a rampage.

~Let me know if you have any questions on the control, I may be able
~to help. The manuals sometimes aren't the best translation from
~Spanish (?).

~Doug

Thanks Doug,

We'll see if I need your (or anyone elses) help over the next few months. I
really hope not. I have the manuals for the lathe and I still know how to
read, so maybe I'll muddle through.
