Re: extrusion of Linear Bearing pillow block question...

Hi Lloyd,

a couple things,

an extrusion of this design would cost less than $10.00 foot.

If you took a 2 inch square aluminum block and drilled and realmed a
hole, you would need to drill through solid, but since you need to
hold the raw extrusion it is only one additonal step. OK two drills.

MUCH faster to drill on a drill press and bore to size before reaming.

Second, if you machine the unit to length and tap the end, (10-32)
you could an end plate or just a bolt and washer. no high tolerance
grouve to cut, but sizing would need to be tight.

You could make a LOT of parts for just the cost of the die charge.

you could do this on a lathe of almost any size, or any mill.

Lathe would offer the C-clip grouve pretty easily. I'm sure I could
to 8 parts an hour, so $10 per part is not too far off for pricing.
and if you wanted it to be split, a saw cut would suffice.

and if you did it in a mill or lathe, you could push in a
Delrin/teflon or other sleeve and ream that in one additonal
operation while it was in the machine and still aligned.

A simple drill jug would offer the mounting holes for repeatable
alignment for just a few hours work.

I think I could do 500 parts for around $10.00 each, cost.
sell for $15 $20 ??

another $5 for reaming the busing, plus cost of the bushing.
say, $5 for Delrin or teflon? (just guessing on that price.)

or, add to that your bushing/bearing. 1,2 or 3 inch lengths.

Think there is much interest ?

Dave
