Huh? I'm confused. Didn't we solve this problem a long time ago
with VB, Visual C, etc.? I thought somewhere there was
functionality that could just take everything and scale it to fit
in a certain size window. I mean, somewhere within windows, there
is knowledge of the screen size and/or resolution, or you couldn't
"maximize" your windows. Wouldn't this make more sense than
trying to pick one size to fit all?

Ballendo,

Thanks for the input. I actually agree on both counts.
Let's look at the resolution issue as it's been bugging me as
well...
On all of my home computers (except for the laptops) I run 21"
monitors. However, I'm guessing that Art from Master5 is using a
17"
based on the resolution of his app. Of course, I have no intention
of
using a 21" monitor for the PC controller. The most likely size
would be a 15", and so I dug one up, and you are right...Master 5
is
microscopic at 1024 on a 15". I tried to compensate in my little
graphic by making the buttons larger, but I think 800X600 would
allow
you to work better on a 15". Being that PC controllers aren't
proprietarty to a certain display as stock CNC programs are, you
need
to find a setting that can live on a few monitors.
Considering that some people mount their new CNC monitors on the
orginal pendant, I think 15" would be the most popular choice, not
to
mention probably the most common to find both in tube driven and
LCD
type screens.
I didn't check to see how large the buttons of my little GUI are
at
1024 on a 15", but 800X600 probably would work well.
When playing with the Master5 demo, I actually had to go through a
few 15" monitors until I found one that would run 1024. I suppose
the
manufacturers felt that resolution was too high for a 15" and we
both
agree on that.
By the way, the "why do developers need to put everything on one
screen" comment was made by me, and is part of the reason I
started
designing this theoretical GUI. I'll refine it a little more as we
go
along. The biggest bug with the GUI is that all you can do with it
is
look at it.

Sean
