You may have hardware problems on that motherboard. Signal 11 is
a memory error relating to corrupted page tables. Apparently, Linux
uses features that Windows doesn't use, and so machines that ran
Windows perfectly, or at least reasonably well, may croak almost
immediately under Linux.

What motherboard, CPU, etc. are you using? How much memory?
What size hard disk?
