Some of things to consider:
1) the work was placed on a grid system which allowed the water to contact
most of the work and keep it cool (the grid system *was* a bit pitted from
use)
2)Plasma cutters aren't generally used fo very thick metal- This guy had a
cutting torch on the same carriage for the thick stuff
3)the guy used a microprocessor (I think it was a Basic Stamp 1) to control
cutting distance. I think he measured resistance or current flow of the arc.
4) he also controlled water level and I think this varied with work thickness
5) the cuttting speed had to be carefully controlled to keep the cut
vertical,especially at corners. this was done in software
6) I probably have this all wrong. I was trying to absorb a lot of info in a
couple of hour demo
