You are right, But these had windings for the control voltages. At least
they could save the cost of a transformer. I don't remember whether they
had any 120 volt windings, but I don't think so. They would have just used
a transformer for that.

You are also right that you could wire in a few of the many spare gates to
do any special jobs. I made them mill at odd angles, and made the spindle
somewhat electronic, but this is obsolete technique. Now you do it in
software in minutes and for cheap. I repeat, the machine is fine, but get
rid of the control box. The control panel is ok and the wires all go to
the j-box at the rear base of the column, making everything accessable.
