I work with Dell computers with built in video all day. On the computers
that I work with when you install a video cart the on board video is
disabled automatically. You will need to look in the book that came with
you computer to find out if yours works like that. As to what slot you put
the video card in that depends on the mother board. Some MB's have what is
called a AGP slot. If yours has one you will want to use that. You will
need to buy a AGP video card for that. Some computers that have built in
video don't have a separate slot so you will need to use a PCI slot and
video card. If you have to use a PCI card it will work in any of the PCI
slots. Most of the people that build computers say to keep the video card
in the slot closest to the processor. Your manual will help you find the
PCI and AGP slots. Thay are marked on the MB (IE PCI1 PCI2) the AGP slot is
the one that is difrent then all the others.
I hope this helped. If you have any other questions ask.

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Re: Video cards
Hi all:
I need help and advice on a computer related question.
My box is a Pentium 3 with a built in SIS video chip, that I'm told is
making a hash of my Solidworks program.
Is it possible to retrofit an aftermarket video board to a machine like
this?
How would I find out easily whether it's possible or not.
I assume I'd have to look in the box for a slot to plug the board into.
What would it look like?
Can I just trace back from the monitor connector and assume that the
closest
slot is the video board slot, or are there other better ways to tell?
Is it a real pain to get one of these machines to accept the new hardware?
I'm running Win98 SE.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers
Marcus
