If it has a motherboard video chip, then there will be nothing to trace back.
There should be several parallel slots that will all accept PCI cards.
There may be an AGP slot, which will be different, and farther away from
the place where the card's metal brackets go.

Check in the BIOS setup screen (it should prompt you to press <some key>
to enter setup while booting) for a selection to disable on-board video.
(Don't do it, however, until you have the offboard card installed.)

You should have a manual that came with the motherboard explaining
all this.
