I recently had such a problem. On an HP pavilion computer. The manufacturer
claimed the same thing, put in a card and the new one would work. Checking
the net I found a host of nasty letters from owners of that model that
proved add-on cards did'nt work with everything as Windows still saw the
card and reserved interupts and time slots for it.
The end solution, new motherboard. Unless there's a selection in the
bios to turn it off, the cards do not seem to deactivate fully. Hope yours
is different, this one was a writeoff, HP admitted the problem and simply
said "there is no solution". (I have a solution, I'll stay away from HP's)
