A friend of mine had a wierd project to cut grooves in glass sheets.
He got a large diameter diamond grinding wheel, and we hooked it up
on my mill. We did make it work, after figuring out how to keep the cut
wet to prevent the glass from chipping.

I assume you want to cut the perimeter of stained glass type pieces.
I think you may find it VERY slow, and a high speed spindle would be
a big help. I think people use jigsaws modified for wires with diamond grit
in them, which makes for a thinner kerf. I suspect it is still pretty slow.

I have seen some ground/etched glass work done with CNC that was
quite spectacular, to say the least. I'm not sure what keywords to use
for a web search, but maybe glass and art, and then try CNC with those.

I can't answer your effort/worth question, at least without some better idea
of what you want to do, and how much you are willing to spend on it.
