RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Creating long straight edges (and big squares)

Hi Marcus -

Just curious about your .0025" of wear - can you actually measure
the effect of this on your parts? I had an old Southbend with a
good .020" wear on the busy part of the front vee, and it really
only bothered me on small diameter cuts. I would guess that the
horizontal component of this kind of wear decreases as the cut
diameter increases, as long as it's just vertical wear from the
carriage going back and forth. What's your case?

Hi Jon:
You have my undying admiration for your willingness to dive
into such a
BIG job.
I was thinking of trying to stone my machine as well (my ways are
worn
0.0025").
I gave it a 15 minute workout and couldn't measure the difference.
That's when I got on the net and found a way grinder in Ontario
who has
EXCELLENT references, and wants only $850.00 CDN for the job.
He's an older German gentleman who claims not to really NEED to do
much in
the way of work anymore, so he just does the jobs he likes.
He has 2 big Churchill way grinders, and his customers tell me he
gets them
dead nuts...within tenths over 10 feet!!!
I'm sending my Monarch 10EE over in a couple of weeks or so.
I'll let everyone know how it works out.
Cheers

Marcus
