Re: Direction follower ?

Hi Tom,

I assumed a 4th axis controller to swivle the cutter and was hoping
there was a canned program to alter the bit. Much like a vinyl
cutter could use.

Seems that the most common vinyl cutter is the caster type that lets
the cutter drag behind the axis.

I can see that mathematically, is would not be too hard to look ahead
and determine the angle the cutter would need to be but then as you
mentioned, smoothing would help keep the cutter from eratic movement
and allow it to follow the path easily.

Mr. Rab had mentioned cutter speed, this does not have to be fast,
although, I think one could cut at high speeds, espically for
straight lines.

Another benefit is that no curves would be sharp as glass cannot
easily break on a sharp curve, and as far as I know cannot break at
all in true angle, it must be a curve.

I looked at using a water jet, but the cost is way up there, both for
purchase, operation and replacemnt parts.

I guess I'll try different variations of the caster/follower wheel
and see how it works, maybe there is some method of tool path that
will work.

Dave
