Great, Hoped you typed in root and not boot :). The best way to start EMC is
NOT to click on the icon on the desktop but to start up a terminal window by
clicking on the icon on the taskbar that looks like a computer screen. That
will bring up a terminal window. At the command line enter the following,
without the quotes
this will put you in the emc directory
'cd /usr/local/emc'
this will start EMC - read that as dot slash emc dot run
'./emc.run'
First time running it, if it asks for a rtl version enter '3_0'
By doing it this way, you can see any error messages that emc puts out. If
you just click on the icon on the desktop and there is some kind of problem
that prevents emc from starting up you won't know what it is. Let us know of
any error messages you recieve. Hang in there, there is light at the end of
the tunnel.
