ringing sound

Having a bit of problem with the G201 driver again. I think it is the
cable.
The y-axis works fine, but the x-axis either doesn't respond or gave
very faint sound but does't move.
Tried switching axis. This time the x-axis is OK but the y-axis is
not responding. Can't remember what I did next, I think I switch
cable or something. If memory not failing, I think the problem
follows the cable. Checked the cable with meter - seem OK.
Reconnecting, this time the fauty axis gave a ringing sound, but no
movement. Tried to search the archives for "ringing" only found the
above.
Ringing sound plus no movement is a symtom of what problem?
