Take an ohmmeter. Squeeze The terminals as hard as you can. Lick your
fingers to make the reading as low as possible. I don't think you
will get under 2,000 Ohms.
It takes about 100mA to get you to be in trouble, i.e. you can't let
go of the leads. Do Ohms Law to figure the voltage needed to get
100mA to go thru you when you have 2K of resistance. That works out
to be 200 volts.
9VDC does indeed tickle when you touch your tongue to it but it is
not hazardous, let alone lethal. It takes 100mA at least to get
yourself in trouble, and then it must pass thru your heart. To do
that it must go up one arm, thru your chest and down the other arm.
All good techincians and engineers know when you are dealing with
potentially leathal voltages to keep one arm behind your back. The
other one you can stick into dangerous parts. If you are wrong, your
fingers will get burned but current won't pass thru your chest and
arrest your heart.
80VDC is enough to make you sit and take notice if you touch it the
wrong way. It will not harm you however. 24VDC you can't even feel
even if you are standing in a bucket of salt water.
You really don't have to freak out about harming yourself at these
voltages. Been there, done that, still alive and none the worse for
the wear.
