Fire risk when wood routing

I had some wood dust / chippings on my mill bed start smoldering from
a hot cutting when doing some routing in beech yesterday and am
wondering how to prevent something more serious in the future.

I've got a dust extractor setup to prevent too much of a buildup of
cuttings although I worry about what might happen if a hot chip goes
down the extraction hose into the dust container.

Is there anything I can do to help minimise the fire risk ?

Thanks,

Rab
