Dave: A 5 phase driver takes the step direction inputs from your computer
and converts them to power the 5 phase motor. Yours is still a stepper motor
but it requires a 5 phase input of power. There is no other way around it.
Five phase motors will only run with 5 phase drives. Some of my 5 phase
motors are 10 wire and some are 5 wire. Some 2 phase stepper motors have 5
wires but they still are only 2 phase. Jon is correct, the 5 in your motor
number designates it as a five phase motor. When searching for 5 phase
drives, the vexta numbering system is the last 2 digits are the current
rating. Most ,if not all, are either 1.4 or 2.8 amps
