I would suggest at least 3:1 reduction for these motors on the HF mini mill,
that cast iron table is much heavier than the aluminum table on a Sherline.
No, I did not purchase the HobbyCNC kit from him, just the motors. They
were my first CNC purchase and I have learned a lot since then (3 years
ago). His prices are good and his kits are a good place to start but I
would recommend a Camtronics 2amp driver and stronger motors for the HF mini
mill. You might be able to use the 60 oz/in motors with at least 3:1
reduction which would be about equal to 180 ox/in motors. If you don't mind
slower rapids you will most likely be fine. I limit my Sherline to 12 IPM
on rapids and reqularly cut 1018 steel with 3/8 and 1/2 inch end mills with
no problems. I am currently using 85 oz/in motors with bipolar chopper
drivers and a 39 volt power supply.
What software are you planning on using for a control program?
