The trick here is to mount the prox switch so that it is perpendicular to
the motion rather than on axis. That way, when something goes wrong, the
sensing flag will simply drive past the switch and not collide with it.
Some tricks to making prox switches more repeatable is to
1. Always approach from the same direction for the final sense.
2. Allow the 'home' position to be when the flag just leaves the switch
(switch turns off)
|One thing I really remember with Prox switches was that when
|things went "Wrong".. really wrong, and it can and does, Guess
|what got pounded to death ? Yep, those more expensive limits ! The gap was
|generally too small to allow space for a safe "Stop Zone" before
|smashing the switch. (the ultimate situation leaves enough room
|for "shock Absorber" dead stops on the machine)
