Hi Jim
The Gecko G201/G210 DOESN'T handle any E-Stops or limit switches
directly! There is ONE "DISABLE" terminal (7) which I suppose could be
used for E-STOP. The controller software often (hobby) gets the switch
closures as inputs (parallel port). The controller program "reads" the
home/limit switches, and stops axis travel in the "XYZ +" or "XYZ -"
travel directions (stops + travel if any of the three axis trip the +
limit). The E-STOP is an additional input. "Commercial" controllers
may do more in hardware.
My 4 G210's each have their own toggle switch for disabling the axis. A
BIG RED E-STOP switch could close all four circuits at once (4PST switch
in parallel, or diodes?).
Having the E-STOP DIRECTLY shut down the drives is a good idea,
especially for SERVOS. Steppers are not prone to "run away" like servo
systems. Stop the program, they stop. They must constantly generate
steps (intentionally). An opened "loop" on a servo can send it running
(so I'm told)!
If you have room for more then the basic 6 limit switches, then adding
just 3 additional switches for "home" would be appropriate.
