I didn't say "very odd" in case a "normal" person was offended but now I know there is someone else odd here......
Seriously though, As this is a public forum I suggest legal opinion from a USA law university may be the way to go. As its in the public interest a university may feel inclined to offer their services probono. I suggest such approach would be more likely to succeed if it came from a local US vitizen and not a stirrer from down under.
Though if we could just identify the person who claimed copyright its then just a matter of removing their comments from the list, which should eliminate the whole copyright crap.
So would the offended copyright owner please ask bill to remove all of their "copyright" messages from the list.
As the whole thread relates only to searching the list I think it is in order.
