comes up, I'm not the one. ;-) If I have had material that is not to
be available in the public domain, it has always been provided as a
link to a copyrighted web page. I would encourage others that have
similar material, to be free/generous with the links to their sites
too.
- One assumes that if there is a concern about copyright, that there
is a commercial reason, which benefits the copywriter, and not the
group.
-While it may not be obvious today, over the years, there have been
at least 3 different commercial services that have "owned" the CCED
archives. The terms of service have varied considerably over that
time. The postings were made under the then current TOS.
-The threat of a personal liability lawsuit can be rather daunting.
No amount of pro bono legal support can lesson the risks involved if
you are named in such a suit. It's just not worth it, unless you are
independently wealthy, and insured.
-I have read the majority of the 52,000 some messages in the
archive. There are no postings that could not easily be replaced
with the knowledgable contributions of several of the current regular
posters in this group.
If the reason that there is no archive, is because of the Yahoo
groups, TOS, then it just may be time to look for another venue for
the discussions, or time to have some SERIOUS negotiations with Yahoo.
