I would have to second Tim's assessment. I'm using one of the Sherline
Stepper mounts on my conversion of a Taig Lathe (for the cross slide), and
they are very well designed.
I'm also using the Sherline left hand thread CNC mill leadscrew as well, as
it is the same thread and pitch as the Taig cross slide screw.

are hard to beat. They use 2 ball bearings that are preloaded to handle
the thrust on all 3 axes. They also include the zero backlash flexible
couplers. I have used a third party motor mount for the first Sherline
conversion I did and it used the stock washers for the thrust. While you
may get the endplay low for now it will quickly grow. None of that
problem with the Sherline kits.
