Re: Xylotex / RapidSyn/ Power Supply help?

Hello David,

I can help you directly via e-mail if you wish.
xylotex @ hotmail . com

A 2.5 Amp Unipolar motor will need to be 'derated' to run on the
bipolar drive. Derate by 71.5%, so 2.5A becomes ~= 1.79 amps. Use
this voltage when setting up the Vref. When calculated, this comes to
2.58 Volts on the Vref test point. You can use only 1 coil per
phase if you wish for higher speed performance, or use both wired in
series for more torque as slower speeds.

To use the series winding setup, you will just tape-off the 'center
tap' of each coil pair. The find the one to tape off, first find the
3 that are connected to each other (use the ohm meter to find this).
Once you have the three for a particular coil, check the resistance
across a pair, note the resistance. Move one probe to the OTHER free
wire of the coil. If the resistance stayed the SAME, then the probe
you did NOT move is the center tap. If the resistance DOUBLED, then
the one just dropped is the center tap. With the center-tap now
taped off, label one wire A, and the other A# of the two remaining
wires. Repeat this process for the other coil, and label them B and
B#. See the last page of the datasheet to see where these go.

The data sheet is at

I suggest a 24V power supply for good performance.

www.mpja.com has a power supply on sale right now:
http://www.mpja.com/product.asp?product=13299+PS
It's only $4.95 (yes that's right, $4.95)
It is +5.2V/ 6A, +24.5V/6A SUPPLY
So you can power both the logic sections and the motors with this
supply.
You can add a nice cap to the 24V output on the PS output to keep
things nice.
Suggestions for the size of this, Anyone in the group????
