The cad and cam programs are independent of the type of drives (stepper or
servo). The Cam program in most cases puts out a G code (example G01).

The G code then is read by a control program like Mach1. In today's PC world
the control program will just put out step and direction signals. At this
point things change. If you look at the gecko drives (www.geckodrive.com)
they have different boxes for stepper or servo.
