Hi Doug and Jeff
I recently completed the install of four commercial rotary phase
converters for a nearby sawmill. The 65 hp head rig had a VFD and it
seemed to work fine. I don't think that there would be any problems with
running small VFDs on any of these units.
Three of the rotaries generated a third leg that was within a volt of the
power legs and within 1.5 volts of each other. Loading did not seem to
make much difference for these three. The fourth unit produced a wild
leg that was about 10 volts off from the other two. It shifted around
some when the load changed.
I know of a number of commercial mills, lathes, routers, and saws that
run their standard VFD's from rotary converters but we are talking some
pretty fancy VFDs here.
