Not really. I designed a stepper motor 3 axis power feed for a small
machine tool company. I just used a 555 timer and a rotary switch to
select the axis. I used a switch to change directions and it had a db25
for parallel port operation. It was selected from a selector switch. Of
course there was also a speed control pot. The master module provided
pulse train via the selector switch to the stepper motor driver.
