Randy: "Mic-cable" is Microphone Cable. "Shield" is called "Screen" in
England. It is the "braid" over the "center-conductor(s)" in such cables.
It can vary from coarse as copper pipe to limp as a condom, depending on
application intended. Most cable specifically made for microphones is very
flexible, meaning the shield is woven (well, "braided"!) of many very fine
wires (#36 AWG or even thinner).
