If you buy a software package, and sell it with your machine AND keep
a copy for yourself, someone is using bootleg software.
If you are going to switch to a new software, no foul.
Most software manufacturers offer some sort of legal transfer of
title.
If you are doing this as a business, buy one copy and supply each
machine with a copy, you are risking a fine of as much as $150,000
PER UNIT sold.

If you are selling and transfer the lisecnce, and don't keep a copy,
no foul.
If you are in the business, you should look into getting a re-seller
liscence or an OEM liscense. it is cheaper to you in the end and
everyone is happy. Of course check with the manufacturer for the
legal stuff.
Autodesk is VERY VERY VERY serious about prosecuting. If a business
buys one copy and puts it on every desk, they risk like $10,000 per
bootleg copy. an engineering firm with 100 desks is a target, but so
is the 2 person office.
