Hello All
I just thought I would give a Software Company's point
Of view on this topic.
Technically most software is supplied under a Licence Agreement
and this is not transferable from one person or company to another
without the express permission of the Authors.
In reality we all know that there is a market in pre-owned goods
and only a very ambitious person would even attempt to control this
market.
The real concern is with what happens after the purchase, the
software
probably is supplied without any form of training and the new owner
often
does not feel confident about registering with the Authors so he gets no
assistance from that quarter. The new user gets into difficulty and
gives up on the software - in this position most people blame the
software. So the net result is that the product now has someone out
there who believes it is no good and the Authors have not had the
opportunity to assist in any way.
This is mostly due to the software industry taking a very
aggressive stance on a few occasions - these are told and retold until
they become 'Urban Legends'.
We believe the grown up approach is to encourage new users to
register with ourselves, normally we ask where purchased and what the
Version Number is. If it is an old Version (usually the case) we offer
to sell an upgrade at the same price that would have been open to the
original owner, we also
offer Training or a Service Contract.
If all of the above offers are declined we are happy to answer
the occasional query from time to time but we would not be prepared to
provide a full support service and if the new user required regular help
we would refer them to the original owner.
We have been developing and supplying CAD/CAM software since
1980 and this policy has served us well throughout that time.
Regards
Michael

So if I sell my CNC Machine with Computer and the Required Software.
The new owner has to go repurchace the Software?
Something stinks in Denmark.
