I second that opinion.
A well adjusted stepper system dose not
lose steps.
If there is a problem, fix the problem.
benefits of a stepper system is they are simple.
Adding encoders adds a new source for possible
problems to a system that is not running right
to start with.
besides you will limit yourself to a very small
choice of controllers that can be configured for
this.
