I am intending on using API CMD-260 drivers. I have not yet grounded them
to the heat sink, but I was intending to. How can I tell if this will cause
a problem. Anyone know or tried it??

the ground is electrically (throught the
frame) connected to the stepper case. ditto to the Gecko heatsink.

Don't know precisely about the Geckos but some heat sinks should definitely
NOT be grounded depending upon transistor mounting and insulation on the
heat sink.
