If the iron is in decent shape and you can get the machine for under
$1500 or so buy it. It does not matter if the control is working or not.
You can put a PC control and a set of Geckos on it for about $500 - $600
and have a great machine. If you were converting a mill drill you would
spend more then the amount to put in even rolled ball screws and drives.
With the Series II you get ground zero backlash screws on a machine that
by the standards of the normal home shop equipment is rigid as the day
is long. The only reason to pass on it is if the machine has mechanical
problems as they can get real pricey to correct.
