Many thanks to all who replied to this post - on and offline - Dale, I'll
post you separately, as we may have a common interest here :-)

I have a working solution at last which I will post up to the files area in
the next few days.
It IS specific to connecting from a DOS PC to a Mac running OSX, but it
would work equally well to a windoze machine running an FTP server.

There are many people to thank here - this was indeed driving me nuts :-))

Thanks again everyone and I'll post up a working solution (complete with ALL
- that's ALL the files you'll need :-))
