555 step generator

Does anyone have a simple 555 timer based step generator circuit handy?

I'd like to have a way to test stepper controllers/motors without having
to connect up to my machine setup. I'm also planning to build a stepper
based polishing rig and will need to be able to set the step rate and
walk away.
