Hi Chris,
I posted a 555 pulse generator circuit in files 555 drive 2:

It was used to drive the three axis of a computer driven water phantom
(Xrays) in manual mode, hence the 6 switches. Calls for 15V, but the
12V Zener parts could be pulled out.
It does a little ramp-up, but no ramp-down :>(
I used it along with PB's to try out and early robot, and currently to
move axis.
