Jon,

Ok. I see your points. But it still doesn't answer the question. The reason
I ask this question is
that there is a friend of mine who has a big CNC milling with a dead
controller. The spindle is 20 kW.
So, If I put like 200 watts motor for each axis. Would the spindle be
considered too much?

I suspect there are general rules that would give me estimate that the
spindle should be A times of motor
axis.
