VFD / phase converter

I hope you're right. I'm looking at buying one from KB Electronics for my
still-on-the-pallet Southbend lathe. The guys at KB recommended I use their
KBVF inverter to run the 1HP 3-phase motor with variable speed, reversing,
adj. ramped start up, etc. Lot's of goodies. It's not an industrially
"hardened" unit, but just mount it in a box, wire it to the motor and line,
and wire a potentiometer and a direction switch to it.
They sell it through distributors for $190.
