Hi Wayne,
You're possibly getting mixed up. Previous discussions about 3 phase
are usually related to the spindle motor and VFD's (variable freq.
drives) These units allow single phase power (usually 230V) to
synthesize 3 phase for an induction motor - allowing the spindle speed
to be varied.
Your specified motors are probably suitable for a CNC conversion but
because of the high RPM's, will almost certainly require a belt/pulley
reduction. You will have to match the motors with a compatible (3
actually for X, Y, Z) motor drive (preferably made by Panasonic) in
order to provide controlled motion. (The drive will synthesize the 3
phases and take feedback, probably from an encoder on the motor.) Make
sure your drives accept step & direction if you are going that route.
Otherwise you'll need a system that generates a +/-10V analog control
signal. Most of the systems discussed here use step & dir as it is
easier for entry level systems.
