RE:DC Motors

Hi Jason,

I theory any DC motor is good, brushed needs more maintenance, they sometimes develop heat problems. This is due to the coil being mounted on the shaft, typically a fan is mounted on the shaft as well to cool these coils. (Look inside a hand drill). At high holding torque and slow movements, you will need some way to force cooling over the coils. The brushes also induce a lot on electrical noise into the controller system. The advantage of brushless is that the coils sit on the casing, making cooling easier, and no noise induced by brushes. The controller system is however more complicated. Look on microchip's website for a controller design of a brushed dc servo motor and a PIC as microcontroller.
