Graham,
I've made a couple of sound containment boxes. The serious one for
a vibratory jewellery tumbler is an air tight drywall box. The mass seems
to absorb low frequencies and foam weather stripping on the door stops hi
frequency 'leaks'. It does get a little warm inside. A plywood box suffices
for a much quieter table top mill. The stepper driver is inside and warms
things up a bit but the 9" monitor dumps enough heat to necesitate a
baffled fan. To stop vibrations from moving through the base I use old
rubber jewellery molds. Essentially 2" x 3" x 3/4" thick natural rubber
blocks, around shore 50 hardness. One at each corner of the machine's base
plate.
